At roughly 2207 EST, BCFR District 1 Units were alerted of an automotive fire on Maple Avenue. Engine 135 was dispatched to the scene. At 2209 EST, Engine 135 arrived and did a sizeup. They found a car across the middle of the road, with a large crowd on the sidewalk. An On-Duty Sheriff's deputy who had stopped to eat lunch was on scene working to keep the ground back. The driver of the car was nowhere to be found. The crew quickly checked the car for any occupants and deployed an attack line to beat back the raging inferno. The driver at this point is still missing. At 2225, SE-135's crew has put out the blaze and called for a tow truck. Witnesses state the car was participating in an illegal street race, and that is why the driver ran away. This incident is currently under investigation by BCPD.
